Scuba diving is one chance for people to go underwater and
experience a completely different environment to being on dry land. Fans of the
activity say it's an amazing feeling and is as close as a person can get to
being weightless without going into space. Unlike using a
snorkel you can swim down quite deep, and you don't need to keep going back to
the surface for air. Normally you learn to scuba dive in a pool before going out
to open water (seas and rivers).
Netrani Island (
Netragudo):
Locally known as Netragudo,
the
tiny uninhabited Island of Netrani lies 10 nautical miles off the coastal Light
House of Bhatkal. With depths ranging from 6 to 40 meters, and visibility between
15 to 30 meters, this island offers excellent diving suitable for certified
divers of all experience levels. Netrani is not only home to the great diversity
of fish life common to Goa and the Arabian Sea, it is also well known for
regular sightings of Turtles, Napoleon Wrasse, Great Barracuda, Cobia, White and
Black Tip Sharks, Stingrays and Stonefish. Imagine Grand Central Station in rush
hour!
Murdeshwar :
About 16 Kms. from
Bhatkal, we come across the holy place called Murdeshwar.
The sea is an intrinsic part of the temple at Murudeshwar. The sea on
three sides surrounds the temple towering on the small hill called Kanduka Giri.
Two life-size elephants in concrete stand guard at the steps leading to the
temple. The Murdeshwar temple has a history that dates back to a few centuries.
A small temple existed here for generations. A recent attraction is the Lord
Shiva idol erected beside the temple which towers 123 feet into the sky and
is the tallest Shiva idol in the world. The Western Ghats has always held a
special place in the hearts of pleasure seeking nature lovers.
About Scuba Diving :
Scuba diving is a sport in which you swim underwater for extended periods
using special equipment. The word Scuba is actually an acronym for
self-contained underwater breathing apparatus. Scuba diving is an excellent way
to see some very beautiful sites: coral diving sites with their colorful sea
life are the most famous but other scuba diving attractions include shipwrecks
and caverns.
Scuba diving can also be a very relaxing sport and in many places it's very
beginner friendly. Many dive sites are accessible (under the care of an
instructor) after a short briefing and training dive. You can learn to dive far
more quickly than you can learn snow sports, for example. It's also suitable for
people with a number of physical disabilities. As long as you can use the
breathing equipment and are able to successfully propel yourself underwater you
may be able to dive.
About Snorkeling :
Snorkeling is the practice of swimming at the surface of a body of water
while equipped with a diving mask, a shaped tube called a snorkel, and
usually swim fins. In cooler waters, a wetsuit may also be worn. Combining these
tools allows the snorkeler to observe underwater attractions for extended
periods of time with relatively little effort.
Snorkeling is a popular recreational activity, particularly at tropical
resort destinations and at accessible scuba diving locations. Snorkeling is also
employed by scuba divers when near the surface, and search and rescue teams may
snorkel as part of a water-based search.
PS. - All participants must
download the Medical Statement and fill it out to know if they are fit to
dive.
