Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Europe and is one of the 7 summits of the world. It lies in the Caucasus ranges in Russia with a height of 5642m/18510 ft. It is a notorious mountain … the thin air and the extreme cold makes it challenging. It is a test of the mental strength, toughness and physical fitness. Since the route is more taxing it is recommended that trekkers should be physically fit.

No expedition from Bangalore was carried out till date and this team will be the first to achieve this feat. Few from India scaled this beautiful yet deadly peak.

The team will attempt this summit for ABETO Foundation's cause - “Save the Lakes of Bangalore”

The cause

"Save The Lakes Of Bangalore"
ABETO Foundation is working together with the Environment Science Department of Mount Carmel College to do scientific research and analysis of water quality, contamination level , contamination source, bed analysis and remedial measures for some selected lakes in Bangalore.

The output would be a scientific research work with a proven and practically implemented model in a small section of the lake which will show how with the addition of certain level of chemicals and planting certain planktons the harmful effects of the pollutant can be nullified, how the EColi content can be reduced and the water can be made usable. Few lakes have been zeroed down for the analysis.

This research work will be given to BBMP and Lake Development Authority of Bangalore such that we can work together and get the necessary support from Government authorities to save our very own lakes. The fund raised from the climb will be used solely for this research work.
Come let us unite for this cause!

For every registrations for this event, Bangalore Mountaineering Club contributes US$ 50 on behalf of you towards the fund raising event of ABETO for the conservation projects of saving the Lakes of Bangalore. So you are actually contributing towards ensuring a Better Tomorrow. Come let us climb for this burning cause and make this climb not just another climb. Let us join our hands for this cause.

Altitude Sickness

Altitude Sickness, often known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is particularly an important consideration while trekking in high altitudes. Altitude Sickness means the effect of altitude on those who ascend too rapidly above elevations of 3000m. The initial symptoms of AMS are as follows:
• Nausea, vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Insomnia / sleeplessness
• Persistent headache
• Dizziness, light headache, confusion
• Disorientation, drunken gait
• Weakness, fatigue, lassitude, heavy legs
• Slight swelling of hands and face
• Breathlessness and breathing irregularly
• Reduced urine output
These symptoms are to be taken very seriously. In case of appearance of any of the above symptoms any further ascend should be reconsidered; otherwise more serious problems may occur which can even cause death sometimes within a few hours. The only cure for the Altitude Sickness is to descend to a lower elevation immediately.
Read more about AMS, HAPE and HACE and Diamox usage from the internet and consult your physician for the same.
